Nowy stary pomysł. W ramach ćwiczenia angielskiego i faktu, że jutro egzamin, post po angielsku! A przynajmniej w mojej aproksymacji tego języka.

“The Daily Show” and “Colbert Report” have become for me an inexhaustible source of socio-political information about the United States of America. Their liberal bias is undeniable, but as a liberal myself I try to stick with the guys who don’t claim “homosexuality brings eternal damnation” so Stewart and Colbert are my people. Still, at the beginning of May I watched a few overdue episodes of each series, then read an article on BBC and later that day sat to watch “Nineteen Eighty-Four”, a film adaptation of a famous Orwell’s work made into picture exactly in spring and summer of 1984 (the book was so much better, but still it’s good to have an option to watch in case you can’t read) and then decided to write this post.
While taking a pleasant warm bath my stream of thoughts willingly meandered towards the press article. Bad American terrorists probably guilty of killing thousands of people deny compliance in military court proceedings and cause the judge to cry out loud for help from elsewhere (Heavens perhaps? But which ones, the 72-virgins Heavens or the Eternal-Praising-God’s-Glory one?). How surprising, can you, dear Reader, understand their behaviour? Might be of any meaning the fact that and the people who detain them caught them in countries beyond their legal authority, detained them for a few years not only without even stating under what law they are supposed to be trialled under, but also, by some mysterious chance, failed to inform them of what exactly are they accused for months, instead subjugating them to corporal torture - one of them was “allegedly” (oh, I have fallen in love with this word on the first day I learnt it) water boarded (Word 2007 does not recognise that word yet) “183 times”?
No, why would it. It is America “land of the free and the home of the brave”. And I admire the bravery of the country who continuously refuses to admit that its “War on Terror” is limited in any way by the international conventions – like Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 – or even its own laws (I almost did a very literal ROTFL hearing an announcement made by the General Prosecutor- or was it Deputy? – that “due process” doesn’t mean what everyone thought it means – it’s nice they clarified that one after two hundred years since the approval of the Fifth Amendment). I’m not quite certain under what law the Americans decided to trial “the terrorists”, but I think they finally decided on that and it’s quite useful. It’s stupid to assemble a jury that seems to have to legitimisation or to kill somebody without any paper based law. But wait, why are they still celebrating a year of blowing an old guys brain out of his skull?
Hm, does it bear to you, dear Reader, any resemblance to any particular action of some other group killing people based on some imaginary law perceiving it an action for the greater good of humanity?
America, I am proud of Thee, oh Ye, Home of the Brave!
